Kitselas Geothermal.
Kitselas Geothermal's mission is to harness the geothermal energy located under the traditional territory of Kitselas First Nation.
The Kitselas Development Corp., through Kitselas Geothermal Inc., owns the majority stake in the Fuel for Reconciliation geothermal project at the M’Deek Reservoir. This project is a significant step towards Indigenous economic independence that must underpin meaningful reconciliation. |
Who we are.
Kitselas Geothermal operates on the traditional, unceded territory of the people of the Gits’llaasu First Nation. Gits’llaasu is pronounced Kitselas and means “People of the Canyon”. We have inhabited the region for over 5,000 years. The Kitselas People are part of the larger Tsimshian Nation, whose traditional language is Sm’algyax. Our geothermal project is located at the M’Deek reservoir, which translates to Bear. The Bear holds a high place in Tsimshian history. The Kitselas logo depicts a Bear claw, based on the Elder teachings that the Kitselas are people of the Bear.
What we do.Kitselas Geothermal, through Fuel for Reconciliation, is decarbonizing local industry to provide social, environmental and economic benefits to Kitselas First Nation and the region.
The goal of developing renewable, geothermal energy is to create a platform for innovation, knowledge passing, and economic autonomy that fosters reconciliation. |
